Ball State Gabion Study

Gabion Baskets have many uses the can be used a free standing walls, as retaining walls or in another form as a material to stabilizer shore lines instead of rip rap. The cages come in a wide range of sizes, but in our study we used a basket that was 3'x18"x18" .

Using Recycled Materials

The Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation's new building provided some unique situations regarding land space, using recycled materials, etc. With the construction of an entirely new building, the old building was torn down creating "unusable" brick and concrete.

Indianapolis Art Museum

The Indianapolis Art Museum Gabion project was started in October 2009 and was finished in April 2010. Commisioned by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Courtesy of the Artist and Galerie Lelong, New York. Galerie Lelong that envisioned the park named it "Park of the Laments" which means seeing the light. The specifications on the wall is 9 ft. x 1,000 ft. The Architect for the project was Wheeler Kearns from Chicago, IL. The General Contractor was Hagerman Construction Group from Fishers, IN. The installer was the Simmons Group out of Pittsboro, IN. Over 250 gabions were used for the project.
